Vibratory Finishing Equipment: Tub-Style Machines for Deburring, Burnishing, and Surface Refinement
ALMCO’s tub-style vibratory finishing machines deliver consistent deburring, edge radiusing, burnishing, and pre-plate surface preparation across a wide range of part sizes, geometries, and materials. The tub design provides a long, linear processing channel that is especially effective for oversized parts, long extrusions, and high-volume batch operations that round bowl vibratory finishers can’t accommodate. Every ALMCO vibratory finisher is built with heavy-gauge steel construction, thick polyurethane tub linings, and precision-balanced vibrator assemblies—engineered to run continuously in demanding production environments.
Available in three series—value-oriented batch machines, heavy-duty configurable tubs, and continuous thru-feed systems—ALMCO vibratory finishing equipment scales to fit single-cell operations, high-production finishing lines, and fully automated manufacturing cells. Our on-site process lab can test your parts on production-grade vibratory finishing machines at no charge, helping you select the right tub size, media, and compound combination before you commit to equipment.

How Vibratory Tub Finishing Works
In a tub-style vibratory finishing machine, parts and finishing media are loaded together into a long, U-shaped processing channel. A motor-driven vibrator assembly mounted beneath the tub spins a shaft with eccentric counterweights, causing the spring-mounted tub to oscillate rapidly. This controlled vibration creates an orderly rolling motion throughout the media bed—parts and media tumble against each other, producing consistent deburring, edge rounding, surface smoothing, or burnishing across the entire batch.
Process Control and Adjustability
ALMCO vibratory finishing machines give engineers precise control over the finishing process. Vibrator speed and amplitude can be adjusted to change the aggressiveness of the media action—higher amplitude produces more aggressive cutting for heavy burr removal, while lower settings provide gentler action for burnishing and fine surface refinement. The process is further tuned by selecting the appropriate media type (ceramic, plastic, steel, or synthetic) and compound chemistry for the specific part material and finish target.
Batch vs. Continuous Processing
ALMCO vibratory finishing equipment supports both batch and continuous thru-feed processing modes. In batch mode, a set quantity of parts is loaded, processed for a timed cycle, and then discharged. In continuous mode, parts are fed into the tub at regular intervals and travel the length of the media bed before being automatically separated and discharged—ideal for high-volume production where cycle interruptions reduce throughput.
Common Applications for Tub Vibratory Finishers
- Deburring machined, stamped, cast, and forged metal parts
- Edge radiusing to remove sharp edges and improve part safety and handling
- Surface smoothing and Ra value improvement for downstream coating or plating
- Burnishing to produce a bright, uniform surface finish
- Pre-plate and pre-paint surface preparation
- Processing large or long parts that exceed round bowl capacity (e.g., wing spars, extrusions, large housings)
Why Engineers Specify ALMCO Vibratory Finishing Machines
- Built for Continuous Production: Heavy-gauge steel tub construction, industrial drive systems, and thick polyurethane linings are designed to withstand years of daily operation. Many ALMCO vibratory finishers in the field have been running for decades.
- Free Process Development: Send your parts to our on-site process lab. ALMCO engineers will run finishing trials on production-grade vibratory finishing equipment and recommend the optimal machine, media, and compound combination for your application—at no charge.
- Scalable Configurations: From a standalone VB Series tub for a job shop to a fully integrated V Series cell with automated loading, parts washing, and material handling—ALMCO vibratory finishing machines scale to match your current production needs and grow with your operation.
- Finishing + Washing Under One Roof: Unlike most vibratory finishing equipment manufacturers, ALMCO also builds industrial parts washers. We can engineer a complete deburring-to-clean production cell, reducing vendors, handling steps, and floor space.
- U.S.-Based Manufacturing and Service: Every vibratory finishing machine is built in Albert Lea, Minnesota. Parts, service, and technical support come directly from the team that designed and built your equipment.
